Music Station – Rehearsal Report 2008.11.21

KAT-TUN Performance
“Music Station”
Rehearsal Report

Going on sale on Wednesday, 12/3, KAT-TUN’s 8th new single, “White X’mas.” With the release date close at hand, the group has their first TV announcement on the 11/21 (Friday) episode of “Music Station.” With that, Johnny’s Web will follow the group until their performance.

In the waiting room, the members are singing a cappella. On their way to the studio for rehearsal, Kouki calls out to Ueda, who is singing, “We’ll be up soon, won’t we?” Ueda replies, “That’s right” with a nod. Together, they check their vocal parts.

As they enter the studio, KAT-TUN gathers and starts to sing. The sound comes together, if the song is like this, during the intro, Kouki starts doing an original dance! Akanishi bursts out in laughter at Kouki’s decision to spin with pretty turns. While doing the talk portion, they sang many times in order to confirm the sound and their standing positions. The rehearsal ended without incident.

Immediately, they go to the waiting room to check their work on the VTR. They carefully check each lyric and sound and way of singing, and talk with each other in order to improve.

While watching the VTR again, Kamenashi says, “I should wear glasses.” Ueda says, “I should, too!” Hearing that and wanting to join in, Nakamaru says, “Then, I should wear them, too!” Ueda talks about a past performance. “That reminds me, there was one time when we all wore glasses, right? Kame and Kouki and I were all wearing glasses and the three of us were lined up in the front. Moreover, we were right next to Tamori-san.” As this is said, the two roar with laughter.

The members sing a cappella many times, but Kamenashi starts to arrange his singing differently. Kouki says “Stop that!” Kamenashi’s rebuttal is “It’s speaking practice! You don’t understand!” (*laughs*) Furthermore, Kamenashi says with a laugh, “Should we stop associating with each other?!” Kouki tries to appeal to him by saying, “Don’t abandon me!” An impromptu skit of arguing back and forth unfolds between the two.

The members changes clothes and prepare for the run-through (a rehearsal where all the guests perform their acts). Wearing the hat with the pompoms attached that appears on the CD jacket photograph, as well as a long knit top, Ueda shouts while gripping the hem of his shirt, “If there isn’t a pocket, I can’t sing. (*laughs*)” Somehow or other, with both hands in placed in his pocket, it seems Ueda has his important thing (*laughs*).

At the run-through, they do mic tests. When they say their names in their line order, Taguchi is last. In the same manner as his usual gag (”Iriguchi, Deguchi, Taguchi desu!”), he says “Yamaguchi, Taguchi, Horikuchi de~su!” [yamaguchi = "mountain opening", taguchi = "field opening", horikuchi = "moat/canal opening"] The movement of a door opening and closing is projected in the silence! With the appearance of talking filled with confidence, next to him sits Akanishi, who starts his mic test. Everyone’s voice was covered by the laughter. Then, the run-through ends and KAT-TUN returns to the waiting room and watches the VTR. The camera work and the song are perfect and Kouki’s voice breaks out with, “This is how we’ll do it on-air!”

After, their last preparations turn towards the performance. Because they sing the same melody, Kamenashi and Nakamaru frequently adjust to match their lyrics and way of singing. Ueda continues studying one of the VTRs. Akanishi and Taguchi also watch. Until the end, the members don’t have any other ideas for adjustments.

It has been decided that KAT-TUN’s performance on Music Station will air on 11/28 (Friday)! Watch to find out what kind of performance it is! Be sure to check it out on-air!
